Earlier this month, rap superstar Fabolous, who is often the subject of interviews, acted as an interviewer in a one-on-one chat with Concepts founder and CEO Tarek Hassan. As the retailer turns 25, the pair discussed its staying power and what the company is focusing on to define its future.
However, following the conversation, Fabolous – a well-known sneaker connoisseur – revealed details about his shoe collection.
Below are excerpts from the conversation with FN, edited for clarity.
THE SHOES I DREAM OF:
“The Air Yeezy. I had all three colorways and I got kind of a scratch that ruined my black pair and I got rid of them. Looking back, I think to myself, why did I do that? I could have had them repaired or cleaned – especially in those days. At that time there weren’t as many cleaning places, but looking back I think to myself, I can’t believe I threw away those shoes.
SHOES I WEAR IN HIGH SCHOOL:
“I went to high school in the 90s, so I wore everything from Nike to Jordan to Reebok and Adidas – wide range of shoes. Filas. I wore everything. New balance.”
HOW MANY PAIRS I HAVE:
“I have no idea. I have so many shoes. I lost count a long time ago and I’m not even trying to go through the counting process.
WORN THE LONGEST:
“I have an original pair of Air Jordan 7s that are falling apart on the sole. This may be my oldest shoe, the ‘Bordeaux’.
WHAT I TRAVEL IN:
“It changes depending on the outfit, but my travel shoe is mostly a comfortable shoe. I like Yeezys for traveling, New Balance. I also like the cool Sacai x Nike bags.
MY SHOE CABINET:
“I have them in multiple places, so my shoe closet is wherever I find space.”
