LOCK HAVEN — Eligible kids and teens can pick up a pair of free new boots and free new shoes on Saturday, February 19 at Lock Haven Area Shoe Bank.

The boot room and the shoe room will be open, by appointment, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. They are inside the Covenant United Methodist Church, 44 W. Main St., Lock Haven.

Many new hats, mittens and scarves are now available. Some are purchased and some have been donated by the Knotty Knitters, the Bald Eagle United Presbyterian Church Prayer Shawl Ministry and others.

Children and teenagers will also receive free socks and books.

The Shoe Bank offers shoes for small feet all the way up to large teen sizes. Children and teens 18 and under are eligible if they live in Clinton County or the Liberty-Curtin school area and have their PA access card, CHIP insurance card or similar insurance card. If they don’t have a card, they may be referred by a school or agency.

All children and youth eligible for the program can choose a pair of boots for the winter, even if it is not their month to receive new shoes. New entrants to the program are also welcome.

COVID-19 safety procedures continue. Everyone will be required to wear a mask, and temperatures will be taken at the door. Toilets and water fountains remain closed.

To reserve your timeslot, call or text Diahann at 814-571-5324 (Monday-Friday 7-9pm). Please indicate if you are new to the program, how many boys and girls are coming and if there are any special requests or needs.

Appointments will be scheduled every 15 minutes depending on family size.

Please let Diahann know if you need to cancel. She keeps a waiting list.

Families who cannot call or text ahead can still contact Diahann on the morning of February 19, the day the Shoe Bank is open, to see if there can be a free time slot.

Please arrive five minutes early to keep your appointment.

Anyone who knows a family who could benefit from this service is encouraged to spread the word. For more information about the Shoe Bank or to volunteer, contact Diahann at 814-571-5324, or email lhasb@outlook.com, or visit lockhavenshoebank.org.

The Shoe Bank depends solely on grants and donations. Funding is provided by the Clinton County Community Foundation, the John B. Hoy, Jr. Memorial Charity Golf Tournament, other granting agencies, civic groups, churches, individuals and donors like you.
