Leopardstown: Saturday
Goodie Two Shoes will have to be on her best behavior to extend her winning streak to three as the undefeated filly enters stakes company for the first time in the Listed Trigo Stakes (4.20) at Leopardstown.
The three-year-old fillies have a terrific racing record, having won seven of the last eight races, and Goodie Two Shoes has come out of nowhere to be one of the most promising Classic generation fillies this season.
She only made her Killarney debut in May but made a strong impression after missing the break due to being punched in the face by the stalls as they opened. She still managed to win by nearly five lengths and followed it up two months later with elegant success in a condition race at Punchestown,
The winning distance was just half a length there, but Declan McDonogh always looked to master things on the trading side and she scored more than a shadow comfortably on the line. It would be surprising if the opposing Monaasib again reversed this form here and Joseph O’Brien expects another bold display.
He said, “Goodie Two Shoes is entering the stakes company for the first time. It would be great if she could get some black guy and we hope for a good run from her.”
The trainer is also represented by Neptune Rock, who pounced late to clinch the Listowel Stakes Listowel last time out.
O’Brien said, “Neptune Rock won well on the last day. She needs the right setup to be seen best, but hopefully she gets it. If she does, she’ll be fine.”
Last year’s winner Georgeville is back to defend his crown, while Aikhal, ranked 110, is the best horse in the race according to the handicapper.
The Group 3 Killavullan Stakes (3.45) have been a stepping stone to stardom in recent years, as Qipco 2000 Guineas winner Poetic Flare won it in 2020.
Whether or not there is another Classic winner in the roster this year is debatable, but Bold Discovery, trained by Jessica Harrington, made quite a favorable impression with their maiden win at Naas last month.
Joseph O’Brien is in charge of the 98-rated Lakota Seven, who will be more comfortable on this trip according to the trainer.
He said: “Lakota Seven is getting back down to 7f and we think that will suit him. He will handle the little juice in the ground and we are very happy with the way he has been training since his last day race.”
