CHAPEL HILL, Texas (KLTV) – Students at an East Texas high school say they’ve found a community service project that thinks outside the box and hope it will be of great help to those in need.

The Student Senate at Chapel Hill High School in Smith County led a shoe drive as part of a community service project, and with the help of all CHISD campuses, they collected many shoes for recycling. by Nike. The initiative through Nike is the “Reuse a Shoe” program.

The shoe drive began in mid-January and on Tuesday, Senior Laci Hackett went out to collect all the donated shoes to pack and send to Nike. This is the first year that the student senate has participated in the program.

“We were looking for more community service projects that we could do that were local, and that didn’t require having to do that…you know, everyone was always doing something like Toys for Kids. But we found out with Nike they did it after Christmas when we had some downtime, and we were trying to make sure it was a good enough company to do it and we’re testing it this year” , said Hackett.

If you happen to have a pair of shoes to donate, it’s not too late. CHISD still collects shoes from the high school, located at 13172 State Hwy 64.
